Trumpetblower (PR Manager) Edinburgh; London-based candidates will also be considered
At Lingo24, we’ve only recently discovered we have a trumpet. But it’s not right to blow your own trumpet, so we need someone who can blow it for us. Step forward if you’ve got the lungs to be Lingo24’s first ever full-time, dedicated trumpet blower. You’d be based at our UK HQ in Edinburgh, unless you combine extremely desirable skills with an irrational desire to live in London, in which case we might give you a desk at our Clapham office.
The trumpet blower (PR Manager) drives Lingo24’s PR strategy and manages their own time, contacts and resources (which include Lingo24’s PR & Online Marketing [PROM] team in Romania and professional writers in London and Edinburgh) to develop maximum return on investment for Lingo24.
The role is approx. 80% executive and 20% supervisory, so we need a doer rather than a manager.
Tasks (time %s will not be monitored and serve a purely indicative purpose):
- develop innovative content concepts (features/articles/profiles) through discussion with Lingo-ists (Lingo24 staff) and journalists. These concepts would be used both by the successful candidate and also by the PROM team. Often the way a concept is pitched will be as important as actual content. (40%)
- pitch concepts to journalists personally on the ‘phone, electronically and in person (20%)
- ensure concepts are presented in a professional, innovative way through use of powerful images, language and delivery channels (15%)
- coach PROM team and content executives on pitching through periodic training sessions and ongoing mentoring (10%)
- build a team of pitchers over time, particularly in foreign markets, to ensure Lingo24’s profile is high in target markets around the world (5%)
- build (and build on existing) network of influential professional journos, using professional and social networks such as LinkedIn and Twitter, who would like to involve Lingo24 in commentary (5% - this will happen as part of other activity)
- identify publications and sections of publications which are likely to be read by Lingo24’s target customers and influencers and supervise identification by others (5% - we have extensive lists already)
You:
- at least 3 years’ experience achieving coverage, preferably about boring things but in a really innovative way, and preferably but not necessarily on behalf of B2B companies, ideally tech but not crucial, to national and trade publications. You might have worked as a PR person for a fast-growing company, as a journalist, or in a PR/marketing agency.
- Creative but pragmatic thinking. Charming persistence.
- Web obsessive, but capable of mixing it in the real world as well (events and the like)
- Passion for foreign languages and ability in at least one a distinct advantage. Language skills must be as tight as a duck’s bathing suit.
What we’ll give you
- the time, space and flexibility to achieve outstanding levels of recognition among our target clients and journalists. By time, we mean all of your time. By space, we mean not haranguing unreasonably to come up with stuff. By flexibility, we mean you can work flexi-time and in different locations and wear what you want (within reason).
- a good salary which rewards high levels of commitment to our trumpet being well and truly blown in lots of different media. The salary will be linked to results but include a good basic.
- a good environment – by that we mean good people and a relaxed but determined and professional atmosphere. Lingo-ists are young, informal and driven. They’re the main thing that makes working here fun.
