Aberdeen is the ‘spiritual home’ of Lingo24; indeed it was where our company was originally founded. Nowadays, although we have offices worldwide, Aberdeen is our administrative and operational base.
Our home town Aberdeen was founded as a Royal Burgh in 1124 and since that time has had a rich maritime history and Scandinavia and the Low Countries were principal trading partners of the City from very early times. Lying as it does, between two rivers; the Don to the north and the Dee to the south and facing as it does the North Sea; Aberdeen’s role as a major maritime centre could never be in doubt. So it was, that during the golden age of the big ‘Clipper Ships’ in the late 19th century, Aberdeen indeed became a major international and cosmopolitan shipping centre.
Aberdeen has always had a sense of civic responsibility and a sense of wider responsibility; as far back as the 14th century, when formerly rented lands were gifted to the City, the people put the ‘saved’ rent money into a fund for the common good of the townsfolk. To this day some of that same money still pays for parks and amenities that have a positive social and environmental impact locally.
Although we at Lingo24 haven’t been around as long as the City itself, we share much of the same values and characteristics as our home town. Aberdeen is cosmopolitan, outward looking, and has a long history of interaction with different countries; qualities we laud. As most of our employees work from home, we minimise the environmental impact of our workforce and as it is more productive and empowering for people to work in such a way, we like to think that we are mirroring the values of our alma mater.
