“Before joining Lingo24, I was actually a credit analyst with a bank in London. I was really looking to get involved in something a little different, so I spoke with my friend Christian, who was the founder and managing director of Lingo24, to see if he perhaps had anything for me. And now, I’m the director of operations.

I think my background in the financial services industry has been of great benefit to the company’s growth; also, having previously worked in an organisation that employed 15,000 people, with 400 people on my floor alone, I can really appreciate working with a company that is more ‘personal’; everyone knows each other by name here.

My role has evolved quite a bit since I joined five years ago. I am less involved with clients now and I’m more involved in the technical and financial side of things; it’s more about the ‘bigger picture’, and planning for the future.

Although I work from home in London, I talk most days with Christian for at least half-an-hour. Working remotely doesn’t cause too many problems, but I always make sure that I communicate by telephone as much as possible, rather than ‘chatting’ through email or Skype. I think Christian and I complement each other very well; he is very strong on instinct and ideas and I help to develop these ideas and take them forward.

The best part of the job is seeing the reactions in other people when they succeed in what they are doing.”
