This is also the period when the Turkish language association decided to replace the Persian and Arabic loanwords with their Turkish equivalents, in an attempt to give their language a more national feel. The standard language spoken today in Turkey is based on the Istanbul dialect and it coexists with several other dialects that vary to rather small extents from the language of media and legislation.
