Punjabi Translation Services

Punjabi is the Indo-Aryan language spoken by the people native to the Punjab region of North West India, where it accounts for 104 million speakers, and the adjacent Punjabi region now contained within Pakistan, where there are about 80 million speakers.

Within India it holds some importance, as it is one of the two official languages of the Delhi; likewise, in neighbouring Pakistan, although the official state languages are English and Urdu, Punjabi is the most widely used language there.

Punjabi uses several different scripts in its transcription, the choice of which is generally split along geographical and ethnic lines.

The script exclusively used in the Punjab region of Pakistan is the Shahmukhi script (meaning ‘from the mouth of kings’) and is a version of the Persian script. Sikhs and most other inhabitants of Indian Punjab use the Gurmukhi script (meaning ‘from the mouth of Gurus’). Hindus and residents of adjacent States occasionally use the Devanagari script; although the first two scripts are the two officially sanctioned scripts.

Whatever the script or dialect required though, we at Lingo24 have an established track record in Punjabi translations.
