Indonesian Bahasa Translation services
Indonesian (Bahasa Indonesia) is the member of the Austronesian language group that is the official spoken language of Indonesia. Indonesian is actually a standardised dialect of the Malay language; it officially gained that status upon the declaration of Indonesia’s independence in 1945.
Within Indonesia, a number of other dialects and regional languages are widely spoken, within their respective local communities, however, the level of people who are able to speak Indonesian within the country is almost 100%, and Indonesian therefore, has successfully managed to linguistically unite the entire country. There are around 17 million native Indonesian speakers worldwide; however there are a further 180 million non native speakers of the language.
The Indonesian language uses the Latin script for its transcription, however, because there have been certain changes within the language since Indonesian independence in 1945, such things as place names can often cause confusion for the non-native speaker. Further confusion can be caused to non-natives, as a kind of informal Indonesian is often spoken wherein standard words are often replaced by ‘slang’ words.
