Generally Italian can be related closely to the other two Italo-Dalmatian languages, Sicilian and the extinct Dalmatian. Those three make up the Italic branch of Indo European as a subgroup of the Italo-Western grouping of the Romance languages. Although Italian uses the Latin alphabet the 5 letters J, K, W, X and Y are not part of the standard Italian alphabet and only occur in imported words or in different dialects.
