Common Sense Advisory estimated that the language industry merger and acquisition activity last year totalled almost 545 million US dollars. The market for outsourced language services was estimated at 8.8 billion US dollars world-wide in 2005.
Don DePalma, chief research officer at Common Sense Advisory, stated that the trend set by concerns such as Lionbridge and SDL and consisting of acquiring smaller companies would continue through the next years. This may cause “translation agencies and ISVs alike to think about their own growth plans, M&A activities, and, of course, exit strategies” said Mr DePalma.
