Whilst certain industries have taken a battering over the past year or so, the future has never looked so good for the translation industry.
Last week saw Europe’s largest technical documentation fair take place. The Tekom Conference in Wiesbaden, Germany, presented new translation technologies and methods and also featured a presentation on the future of the translation market in the official conference programme.

The Center for Literary Translation at Columbia University has recently launched its website http://www.centerforliterarytranslation.org/
The joint creation of PEN American Center, the online magazine Words Without Borders, the poetry journal Circumference and the Writing Division, the Center of Literary Translation promotes the study of translation and tries to increase the number and quality of the literary translations published in English by coordinating programs that enhance awareness of the art of translation, the work of translators, and literatures not written in English.

This week Google Inc. enhanced its translation service with a new feature that allows users to enter search requests in their language and then click on a link to have the resulting pages translated. The advantage of this feature is that English terms can now be used to search websites written in other languages.
This feature is currently available in English, French, Russian, Italian, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Arabic, simplified and traditional Chinese, Korean and Japanese.
