Video may well have killed the radio star as British pop group and one-hit wonders The Buggles sang on their 1979 smash hit, but video has also created superstars out of many people.
From the silent movies of the Buster Keaton Era through to the launch of MTV in 1981 and beyond, the moving image has been telling stories for well over a century now. And with the advent of the internet era, it has become a whole lot easier for people to make stars out of themselves without the need for expensive equipment and the backing of a major-studio.
Video-sharing websites have made minor celebrities of many people, from wedding couples performing quirky routines for their first dance to wannabe comedians who gain such a significant following they are eventually offered their own television show. All that’s needed is a video camera, a networked computer and a good idea.
And not one to shy away from the wonders of modern technology, Lingo24 is taking its first tentative steps into the video world. We have now established partnerships with several top online digital agencies that are very keen to hear what we have to say for ourselves.
Given that Lingo24 is now seven and a half years old, we’ve got a lot of advice to offer budding businesses out there. This will involve telling the story of how we went from being a one-man e-business run from a house in Aberdeen to a global translation company with 100 employees spread across four continents. We will offer practical tips and hints on how we’re managing to thrive at a time when many companies are struggling.
But for now, those who are in a nostalgic mood and fancy some classic 80s pop, then check out the buggles here:
