Translators work 24/7 on translation
A team of 10 to 12 translators are currently working 24/7, on a copy of a Mexican court judgement in order to expedite the return to Canada of a wrongly convicted Canadian citizen; Brenda Martin.
Brenda Martin was convicted on money laundering charges in Mexico. At the time she was being employed as a chef by a certain Alyn Waag who was, unbeknown to Brenda Martin, actually operating an internet fraud scheme. In due course, the long arm of the law caught up with Waag, who is currently serving 10 years, however, the shadow of suspicion also fell upon Brenda Martin.
To his credit, Waag signed a sworn affidavit that Martin had no knowledge or involvement with his dealings, but in spite of this, she has remained in custody since 2006. After a thorough recent review, however, a Mexican judge has deemed Martin innocent and has ordered her return to Canada; but there is a snag.
The Canadian Government requires that the full transcript of the proceedings (a 400 page legal document of small type) must be translated into English and then reviewed by the Canadian authorities before Brenda Martin can be accepted back into the country. As a consequence, a full team of over 10 Canadian government translators are working around the clock to ensure that the fastest possible translation is rendered in order to expedite Brenda Martin’s return.
