Iran releases largest religious multimedia encyclopaedia
Yesterday we reported on the worldwide project by Jewish organisations to achieve multiple complete translations of the Tanach by encouraging volunteers worldwide to translate one line each of the Tanach into their native languages. Today we can report that Iran has released what is considered the largest religious text multimedia project in its field.
The Computer Research Centre of Islamic Studies has released software containing various interpretations of the Quran and many supplementary and ancillary works totalling some 300 separate book titles consisting of almost 1500 volumes.
The core of the work contains over 180 Persian and Arabic translations consisting of over 1200 volumes plus another 47 Quranic translations in a further 25 languages including German, French, English, Italian, Spanish, Urdu, Russian, Japanese, Chinese, Indian dialects, Turkish and Bosnian. There are also multiple dictionaries and volumes elucidating sections of the Quran.
If this were not enough, the software includes over 70 hours of recitals from the Quran by various well known and acclaimed reciters in various languages. We congratulate the Computer Research Centre of Islamic Studies for their mammoth undertaking and wish them every success for their impressive multimedia product.
