International comedy

Having a look at some old clips on You Tube last night, I came across a raft of clips from that hilarious comedy series Allo Allo. Beside a brilliant and improbably zany storyline, most of the entertainment is derived from the interplay of the characters and plays on their various accents e.g. the British pilots dressed as French Policemen and attempting French accents (but spoken in English).

It somewhat surprised me then, to find that the series is just as popular in Germany as it is over here. Now I don’t doubt that the storylines can cross the language barriers, but I was baffled as to how the accent issue and the cross country nuances are handled in the German version.

If anyone can enlighten me…I’d be eternally grateful
