A magic Christmas abroad
Forget the hustle and bustle of the usual High Street mêlée for Christmas gifts. Don’t put up with grey skies and an equally grey shopping experience; why not do what increasing numbers of Brits are choosing to do? Go to Germany for your Christmas shopping.
A visit to one of Germany’s numerous Christmas Markets is truly an unforgettable experience. The atmosphere is absolutely enchanting and is enhanced in no small measure by Gothic buildings, traditional stalls and hand made craftwork of real quality.
As you wander around you will, no doubt, be drawn to the virtually impossible to resist treats that lie in wait: mulled wine, grilled sausages, hot chestnuts, gingerbread and marzipan.
Oh…and another thing…in Northern Germany, you stand a good chance of getting some snow!
Most of Germany’s Christmas Markets start in the last week in November and run through to a few days before Christmas. One thing to be aware of though is that the fifth Sunday before Christmas is ‘TotenSonntag’ – a sort of Remembrance Day; this time is best avoided, as many markets and other attractions will close for this occasion.
Many people now make an excursion to the German Christmas Markets an annual event, as arguably, Christmas over there is far more traditional, less commercial and better presented than over here…what do you think?
